We are making final arrangements for this year's band and drill team schedule and want you to be aware of all that is going on. It looks like a most interesting year.

A. The enclosed long sheet covers the pre-school rehearsals and you are asked to attend these rehearsals with the band.

You are to be at the first rehearsal and at every other rehearsal scheduled for Orange Blossoms, Flag Girls and Majorettes & Drill Team.

Returning 08-09 Drill Team: We will hand out uniforms in August. If you are not there your uniform will go to someone else. If you have a problem, call me at 793-3436 and leave a message for Lynn Enos.

B. The second sheet is a list of parades and rehearsals that we want to be a part of. It is not complete, but it is the best we can do at this early date.

ALL DRILL TEAM MEMBERS WILL BE AT ALL PERFORMANCES. IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND ALL PERFORMANCES, YOU WILL NOT REMAIN ON THE TEAM. ILLNESS OR DEATH IN THE FAMILY IS THE ONLY EXCUSE. I REQUIRE A NOTE 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. IF YOU ARE SICK AND CAN NOT MAKE IT YOU MUST CALL, SO WE ARE PREPARED FOR IT.

C. The third sheet is for both you and your parents to sign and return to Lynn Enos. This is a declaration of faith that you will do the job to the best of your ability THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR AND NOT JUST THE FIRST SEMESTER.

D. OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES

Flower Girls for Graduation, and various ushering engagements at Shaffer Theater throughout the year including City of Hope benefit in February, Symphony youth concerts, Studio Band Concert and Fabulous Studio Band Dinner in March.

The band will rehearse most every Thursday, and some Tuesday nights before a home football game and everyone is required to march in every home game during the season. Every student is to make every rehearsal and every performance.

To fill this position with the band you must be scheduled in Porterville High School first through fourth periods of the day THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR. Verification of this must come to me from your counselor before the start of school in writing.

The only reason for you to be assigned to the band in any of the three above listed groups is to be a part of our marching organization. It must be assumed that you will make all the performances and rehearsals as scheduled or you should not accept the position.

Make sure you realize the ushering dates as they are a traditional part of your responsibility and you will be expected to arrange your schedule to be there.

No costume jewelry - watches - or earrings allowed in any Panther Band uniformed performance. No body piercing allowed for any PHS student THIS IS A SCHOOL POLICY!!! HAIR MUST NOT BE CUT SHORT IN UNUSUAL WAYS OR DYED IN OUT OF THE ORDINARY COLORS.

TO: ORANGE BLOSSOMS, MAJORETTES, AND BANNER GIRLS

You are to follow all the same instructions as any of the band members. Your meeting place will be the large rehearsal room in the band building. Roll will be taken there and you are not to leave that room unless instructed.

All uniforms are to remain in the band room after every performance. No exceptions.

In the girl's bathroom NOTHING SHOULD BE LEFT ON THE FLOOR. After each performance, your uniform will be hung up in the band room in an assigned spot and in order.

The Orange Blossom line is one that requires no previous band instrumental experience so it is important that all people taking the job meet all requirements: LONG HAIR, SMILE, DO AS TOLD AND NEVER TRY TO MAKE AN EXCEPTION OF YOURSELF IN ANY SITUATION. THE ABOVE MENTIONED ITEMS ARE FOR THE FULL SCHOOL YEAR.

Use lots of make-up and BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK. All girls use the SAME COLOR. It is the group that we are thinking of. Ms. Enos will determine the color for all girls to wear.

Boy friends are to stay the same distance as anyone else watching the band. They are not to sit with you at anytime the band is in any sort of organized position. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM, THE GIRL WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE BAND.

Be at the band room at least 30 MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE TIME SO YOU CAN DRESS PROPERLY AND LOOK GOOD ALL THE TIME. That's your major responsibility.

The following is a list of your official duties OTHER THAN MARCHING with the band:

1. Usher and help with the City of Hope Spectacular in February.

2. Usher and help with the annual Spring Band Concert in May.

3. Flower Girls for graduation in June.

4. Usher and help with the annual Studio Band Concert in May.

5. Usher and help with T.C.Symphony Youth Concert in the Spring.

We have several parades and concerts planned, but some dates as of now are not all definite. Students will be notified of the performance way ahead of time, and should make all necessary plans to attend.

The band this year looks like our best yet and it is very large. AS A STUDENT, YOU GET OUT OF IT ONLY WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT. The rules and regulations put forth are simple and will come naturally to a good band student.

Let's all join together this fall -- everyone be a good band student and have the best PANTHER BAND to date.

P.S. An effort will be made to have all girls fix their hair the same at each performance. That goes for length, style, etc. Majorettes' hair: up every performance and fixed alike.
